During the years we have covered a mix of subjects at Aldwyn Primary School but we don’t really do “IT Lessons”. As the introduction on the, "OUR MISSION" page of The Learning Zone states, we are using a clever mix of traditional teaching mixed with a different range of IT and digital skills and we are beginning to embrace the Government’s Essential Digital Skills Framework and the Welsh Digital Competence Framework to supplement and enrich the objectives.
Traditional teaching mixed with a different range of IT and digital skills is the key to creating a great learning environment for children. Teachers at Aldwyn Primary School have traditional teaching skills but are also using technology and digital learning to harness the potential of today’s children.
In an increasingly digital world, the ability to use technology and computers is going to become a much more important skill than it has ever been before but we also encourage the use of other forms of expression and creativity such as drawing, model making, writing and discussions - It is not all about computing and digital skills.
Our creative skills are the abilities to write, draw, talk and read books. When we're younger, these skills come naturally to us as we play with toys and other children. But as we grow up, many of us lose our creative edge. Children need to be encouraged to develop these skills early in life so they can express themselves creatively later on.
This is why we have added a whole range of different creative topics to enrich teaching and understanding such as web design, graphic design and creative thinking and most importantly we get children to talk about their ideas, plans and work.
